The Curry Advocacy Team Inc.
Barbara Eells-Director
CCAT is a non-profit agency with the mission of protecting children and decreasing the incidents of child abuse in our community.
The Core Team is comprised of a group of local professionals who work for various agencies as child abuse investigators, child welfare case workers, victim’s advocates and the criminal prosecutors.
Extended Team members include public health, schools, treatment providers, and others as necessary. By bringing these multiple discipline together, the team focuses on managing child abuse investigators with minimal impact on child victims, as well as a coordinated effort to successfully prosecute child abuse offenders.
Advocacy Center
Our small advocacy center is a safe, friendly place for children to be interviwed by specially trained teams. We currently offer a crisis assessment program and we hope to have local medical access available soon for special exams. We coordinate with other agencies to provide counseling and other services. Our goal is to gather critical information regarding allegations of abuse, provide for child safety in cooperation with team member agencies and to identify and advocate for needed resources in our community.
How are interviews conducted.
The priorities are to minimize the number of interviewsof the child and to make the interview setting as safe and comfortable as possible.
Interviews are oriented to the child’s age and ability to communicate. The child’s state is monitored carefully and the interview will be terminated at any time that a child becomes unwilling or unable to continue. Following the interview, referrals for services can be made and a victim advocate, in cooperation with other team members, is available to assist the child and family as necessary.
What type of followup is done?
Children can be referred for medical examinations by specially trained doctors. They can be referred for counseling specific to their abuse, and non-offending family members can also be referred for services. When a case goes to court, Advocates assist the child and non-offending family members through the court process and provide support.
