CURRY COUNTY COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND FAMILIES...Dr. Myrna J. Barber, Director

MISSION

It is the mission of the Curry County Commission on Children and Families to develop and execute a plan to continually identify, coordinate and provide needed services to the community, thereby enabling our children and families to achieve their fullest potential

In 1993, the Oregon Legislature’s House Bill 2004 created the Oregon Commission on Children and Families. This new way of offering services and supports to children and families strives to:

Support healthy communities. Mobilize and support local planning and decision-making. Build collaborations. Develop policies and standards of accountability.

The Curry County Commission on Children and Families, like other local commissions is made up of volunteers appointed by the County Board of Commissioners. This mix of lay and professional volunteers work to map the needs and assets in our community and to create a workable plan unique to Curry County.

The CCCCF partners with other organizations in the community to develop and support necessary projects and programs. The CCCCF also works to bring in State, Federal, and Foundation dollars to promote the wellness of local families. And best of all, these are our neighbors making recommendations about what we need locally.

The Commission manages state and federal funds that are allocated to local programs and projects based priorities and strategies established during the community planning process and identified in the Comprehensive Plan. Programs that receive funds are monitored for program effectiveness by measurable outcomes. View the Outcome List, Application Packet and Funding Descriptions & Amount. The plans must address certain issues, such as reducing the number of children who are abused or neglected, increasing the number of children entering school ready to learn and decreasing the number of eighth graders using alcohol, tobacco or drugs. The plan includes information from local human service agencies and local residents, as well as trends exhibited by data.

Our priorities ranked in order are:

  Child abuse prevention;

  Parent education and family strengthening;

  Drug and alcohol prevention, education and treatment;

  Positive youth development;

  Social services in the schools

  Quality childcare

The role and responsibility of the local Commission includes:

    Engaging in extensive community planning; and involvement in current issues

    Advocating for local support

  .Coordinating and implementing programs and special projects;

    Providing resource development support for local programs;

    Providing coordination and facilitation services to bring together local resources with similar goals and outcomes in order to impact service provision and delivery of services

    Making recommendations for funding of local programs with solid outcomes.
